- The policy, released in April for public comment, aimed to establish South Africa as a leader in AI innovation on the continent while also addressing the ethical, social, and economic impacts of the technology.
- The process was halted when the Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Solly Malatsi, confirmed the inclusion of unverified AI-generated citations.
