- The Rector of Kaduna Polytechnic, Professor Idris Bugaje, has faulted plans to scrap the Almajiri system of education in northern Nigeria, arguing that the system cannot be abolished but should instead be reformed.
- Speaking at the closing ceremony of a Capacity Building Workshop for Technical and Vocational Teachers in Kaduna, Bugaje stated, “Laws were being made to scrap Almajiri system, but it is impossible, because this system of education has been around for over a thousand years.
- Rather, we should look for a way to improve the system.” He added that anyone who attempts to scrap the system would fail.
