- The National Industrial Court of Nigeria sitting in Calabar has issued an interim order stopping the ongoing process for appointing a new Vice-Chancellor at the University of Calabar (UNICAL), following a legal challenge by a senior academic.
- The order was granted in response to a suit filed by Professor Joseph Eyo, who is contesting the legitimacy of a key requirement in the university’s vacancy advertisement published on May 27, 2025.
- The advertisement specified that applicants must possess at least 10 years of post-professorial experience—a condition Professor Eyo argues is baseless and unlawfully imposed.
