2022 National Common Entrance Exam Results Released

The Federal Government has released the 2022 results for the National Common Entrance Examination, a crucial test for admission into the nation's 104 unity colleges. The examination, administered by the National Examinations Council (NECO), took place on May 7 across the country. During the announcement in Abuja on Monday, the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, who was represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mr. David Adejo, revealed that Ajidapa Mariam, an indigene of Sokoto State, achieved the highest score with 201 marks. Idara Obot from Akwa Ibom State secured the second position with a score of 200. The lowest score recorded in the examination was 1, achieved by 15 candidates from various states. Mr. Adejo highlighted the expansive reach of the examination, stating that it was conducted not only in Nigeria but also in the Republic of Benin and Togo. A total of 71,738 pupils participated, comprising 34,030 males and 37,708 females. The attendance rate was high, with 96 percent of registered candidates, or 68,633 pupils, sitting for the exam. The remaining 4 percent were absent for various personal reasons. Lagos State registered the highest number of candidates with 19,518, of whom 18,787 sat for the exam. The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) followed with 8,623 registered candidates, while Anambra State was third with 5,335 registrations, and 265 candidates absent. Conversely, Kebbi State recorded the lowest registration with only 74 candidates. The Minister also noted that the 2022 examination saw a higher number of female student participants than males. The ministry reiterated its commitment to the established admission criteria, which include 60% on merit, 30% on equality of states, and 10% for exigencies. In a significant directive, the Minister ordered that the National Common Entrance Examination should henceforth be conducted in April each year, with the entire admission process to be concluded by the end of May. The Registrar of the National Examination Council (NECO), Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi, described the 2022 Unity Schools examination results as an improvement over the previous year’s, showcasing “remarkable performances”.
