The Association of African Universities (AAU) has officially praised the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) , Is-haq Oloyede , for his courageous admission of errors regarding the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results. In a letter signed by the AAU’s Secretary General, Professor Olusola Oyewole , the association lauded Mr. Oloyede’s actions as a remarkable display of integrity , humility , and exemplary public service . In a landmark achievement for education financing in Nigeria, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has successfully disbursed a whopping N56.85 billion in student loans to nearly 300,000 students across the country—signaling a transformative shift in how students access and afford higher education. This update, released in a recent status report, highlights the rapid growth and impact of the scheme launched on May 24, 2024 . Within just one year, the programme has touched 298,124 lives and benefited 198 institutions , including universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. 🔍 A Breakdown of the Numbers Total Disbursed: ₦56.85 billion ₦30.17 billion paid directly to institutions as tuition ₦26.67 billion disbursed to students as upkeep Students Registered: 607,326 Loan Applications Submitted: 562,556 (92% success rate) These figures point to an overwhelming demand and trust in the programme, with daily increases showing momentum hasn’t slowed. For instance, just on May 28, 2025 , another 1,285 students registered , and 2,265 loan applications were submitted. The next phase of expansion is just around the corner.
